Such a groove

Back to the job search grind and I think I'm losing it. Searching is much more draining than actually working. Got an unwelcomed surprise from the grand ole' bank and today quickly headed straight to the dregs....sortof. I decided to get out of the house and away from this wretched computer and it's no-good-no-interview-offerin' ways and take a walk around my semi-new neighborhood. Walked along the train tracks, talked to wanderin' dogs, found an old mysterious, abandoned parking lot/drive-in type playland, peaked into hidden gardens, hiked up the neverending hill of wykkyd lane...twice, said hello to strangers, longed for a camera, sang Sir Doug songs to myself and sweat my troubles away. I'm going to talk my way into a new camera and start documenting this beautiful land I now (again) call my home. There is something about it that makes me sure that I made the best decision of my life in coming here. It's hard to explain the way that the sky looks at dusk...the way the rain smells...the way the air feels. I'm as broke as broke can be, but I'm happy and in love with Texas.

Last weekend I had the chance to take the train to Ft. Worth for my beautiful cousin Hope's wedding and it took me through the backyards of these old, built-with-love farm houses and glorious old train stations. Traveling through central Texas by train was a mind opening experience. The town squares and cattle baron mansions, though aged and a bit forgotten, still hold the splendor and comfort of their time. I spent my time daydreaming of the lovely ladies of days gone by rushing to the dance hall with their hair just perfect and lipstick without a smudge... even in this damned heat. The ice cold soda fountain Dr. Peppers and smiling, slick haired country boys up to no good and looking damn good all the same.

On Wednesday Gabe and I took a little trip down to "The Drag" to check out some vintage shops and get a good look at UT Tower. It ended up being the best day in the midst of a lot of good days. This dusty little town hasn't had rain in days and weeks and months and Zeus decided to bless us with an awe inspiring monsoon about 10 blocks away from our final destination. The rain felt like heaven and the lightening ripped the sky for miles. We laughed and danced our way through the barrage and safely made it home to the comforts of kittens, Blue Belle Ice Cream sandwiches, free Obama (hilarious yet frightening) conspiracy documentaries and happy flowers.

Lookin' forward to Moon Towers and Miss Claire!

A Secret Garden in Which We Grow

There is hope that the weather will be cooling soon and that means I can work on/in the garden! The back yard already has a beautiful bed in the shape of a figure eight laid out and the front garden will soon be enjoying the shade of our soon-to-be addition, A LEMON TREE! I'm also working on resurrecting the crepe myrtle by the front drive. Here are some of the lovelies that I plan on putting in.

I also had my first Austin interview today. It went really well and I don't want to jinx myself, so all I'm going to say is that I hope that I get it because I need to buy more plants!

XOX!
